Enhancing performance

“A lot of national economies are still on performance-enhancing drugs. It will be interesting to see what happens when the dope gets taken away.”

-Norbert Reithofer, the chief executive of Bayerische Motoren Werke
At Geneva Auto Show, an Upbeat but Uncertain Mood (NYT)

Interesting question - what will happen? I suspect that the performance-enhancing drugs have had very little effect on economic growth. However, this substance abuse is starting to have some very powerful and increasingly nasty effects on price stability.

We got rid of the dope last may. Alas we seem to have sent in the clowns instead.
