The decline in the number of workers per retiree affects all advanced countries. No one escapes the demographic time bomb.
I had a few difficulties putting this data app together. Sizing the thing to make it fit on the blog page has proved to be quite a challenge. This is mostly because I often don't know what I am doing with these graphics packages.
It is a learning process I suppose.

Roll on death.
It's even worse for the UK, given that so many of the Yoof are unemployable. Their numbers will be a negative, not a positive.
Some interesting trends in this thingy. eg China becomes old very fast.
Tis said that if something is repeated often enough it will be believed to be the truth.
No matter what the demographics the world will go on turning and life will go on.
Perhaps if the UK were more interested in the welfare of British citizens and not in educating, clothing, feeding and housing the rest of the world...
Still if you're a globalist these statistics fit the agenda perfectly.
The good news is that none of the oldies can afford to retire, so the bad news has been put off for another 20 years.
The bad news is that the up-and coming generations (now 25% ethnic minority in England and Wales) may not necessarily be up to the standard of their predecessors. As that idiot Alan Greenspan noted of the States :
"In the United States, we are in the process of seeing the baby boomers — the most productive, highly skilled, educated part of our labor force — retire. They are being replaced by groups of young workers who have regrettably scored rather poorly in international educational match-ups over the last two decades.
We've been running a dysgenic policy for the last 40 years where Ms Masters-Degree has one designer baby at age 37, while Karen Mathews has 7 and Mr Khan's wives clock up 3 each. There are long-term consequences to that sort of thing.
(Historically the response to labour shortages has been a rise in wages and improvement in working conditions. I can't see our rulers tolerating such a hideous distortion of the "free market")

Don't worry. We can rely on the younger generation.
(Adults only)
I think this is more apposite - also not quite child or work-friendly :

Electro-Kevin and Laban,
Demography is destiny
Alice
Oh.
I though Geography was destiny.
Silly me.
Wrong again !
How about Geography AND demographics are destiny?
I prefer your version to be honest.
You're right of course.
