I found this clip fascinating. Hazal Blears, the communities minister, was invited up to Skelmersdale, one of the most deprived towns in England. Hazel was shocked by the extent of urban decay, but couldn't help herself from slipping back into Newlabourspeak. "This government has spend billion (or was it gazillions) on...."
The evidence suggests that New Labour spending didn't make much of an impression in Skelmersdale.
Skem was one of the first New Towns and established a record, never seriously challenged, for the shortest time between New Town and crime-ridden disaster zone. They've been throwing money at it since the 1960s.
Err, did you speak with any of the residents that had turned the place into a pile of manure? No. Of course not. Instead, they decided the government needed to do more.

Leave poor Hazel alone.

It's not a marginal consituency so would they really spend billions?
I suppose I should have said it hasn't been a marginal; though hopefully it will be, or better yet a non-Labour seat, after the next Election.
I took this video and developed it further. What do you think?
