But two wrongs don't make a right. As I understand it (and please correct me if I'm wrong) the strikers are upset over their pension arrangements. If that is so, and given these are public sector pensions, they are effectively saying that all the rest of us must pay up so that their schemes remain as promised or planned. Bankers et al definitely deserve the condemnation but still given we are where we are, these strikes are promoting a "me first" viewpoint as well.ernienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2948538160252327076.post-70527970436655075202012-07-20T14:19:37.539+01:002012-07-20T14:19:37.539+01:00We have spent 40+ years teaching children that the...We have spent 40+ years teaching children that there are no moral absolutes, that everything is relative. If you follow all the rules to the letter, which the State has to do, seeing as it made the rules, then it is virtually impossible to make stuff happen. Certainly not quickly, or cheaply. It is why everything the State touches costs massively more than it should, and is often unworkable and behind schedule too. Its contractors have to be 100% compliant, which in turn reduces the number of companies able to bid for contracts. So you end up with one or two bidders, who tick all the right boxes, and who can name their price as a result. In the recent Olympic security case only G4S could have done the work, so they got the contract.

Most private businesses break some law or other every day. They'd never get their work done if they didn't, and they'd soon go bust too. We need to just abolish vast swathes of regulations and just let people get on with stuff.Jimnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2948538160252327076.post-49590390085196272952012-07-18T09:47:58.454+01:002012-07-18T09:47:58.454+01:00Hear hear.
